Alastair Sawday’s ‘Special Places to Stay
Alastair Sawday’s website and series of guide books promote “authenticity, individuality and good local
organic food.” His ‘Special Places’ are chosen after an inspection where he is looking for “people and
places that do their own thing – brilliantly; places that are unusual and follow no trends; places of
peace and beauty; people who are kind an interesting – and genuine.”

Parés Baltà
Visit the family owned winery located close to the heart of the Penedès wine region.
Using unconventional techniques (their own flock of sheep to fertilize the soil and beehives to pollinate
the vines) to “produce certified organic wines and cavas of high quality using grapes which come from their
own vineyards - five estates, situated around the winery and in the mountains of Penedés. The altitude varies
from 170 to 750 meters and offers a diverse mixture of soils and microclimates that gives a special personality
to the wines.” Their tours are especially welcoming so this makes a great alternative to visiting the large corporate
vineyards

Restaurante Carnivor
Located at the bottom of the track to our hotel, the Carnivor is a delightful place to have lunch or an evening meal.
Esther and Manel will treat you to a warm welcome and serve up splendid, market fresh Catalan food and an
extensive wine list. The steaks are superb while the fish options are excellent. Not so great for vegetarians!
